What Is Semen?
Semen is a thick, whitish fluid
made up of two parts: sperm cells and seminal plasma. The plasma is
mostly water but also carries sugars, proteins, and minerals like zinc,
calcium, and magnesium. Each teaspoon contains about 5–25 calories.
Is It Safe to Swallow?
For most people, yes. The body digests semen just like food. Rarely, some may experience an allergic reaction called human seminal plasma hypersensitivity (HSP), which can cause itching, swelling, or discomfort.
Taste, Smell, and Myths
The taste of semen can
range from salty to slightly sweet, often influenced by diet. Pineapple
or cinnamon may improve flavor, while garlic, alcohol, or coffee can
make it harsher. Its bleach-like smell comes from its alkaline pH.
Despite myths, it’s not a significant protein source.
Possible Effects
Some studies suggest semen
exposure may reduce stress, improve mood, or even support reproductive
health, though research is limited. However, swallowing can transmit
STIs, so regular testing and protection remain important for safety.
