From a starving child abandoned on the streets… to a proud university graduate. Nearly 20 years ago

The image shows the inspiring story of a young boy named Hope who was rescued from starvation in Nigeria by Danish aid worker Anja Ringgren Lovén.

  • In 2006, Hope was found severely malnourished and abandoned by his family due to local superstitions that accused him of being a "witch child".
  • Anja Ringgren Lovén, the founder of the charity Land of Hope (formerly DINNødhjælp), rescued him, provided medical care, and gave him a home.
  • The photo of Lovén giving the emaciated boy water and biscuits went viral in 2016, drawing global attention to the issue of child abuse linked to witchcraft accusations in Nigeria.
  • The image collage shows Hope's incredible transformation over the years; by 2025, he had grown into a young man and successfully graduated from university, a testament to the power of love, care, and education.
